Экспедиционная группа под руководством профессора Шестакова прибывает в один из районов Сибири. Многократные попытки обнаружить местонахождение сибирских алмазов долгое время остаются безрезультатными. Очередная экспедиция начинается с драматического события: скоропостижно умирает ее руководитель. Однако геологи решают продолжить свой путь. Так начинается тяжелый, полный опасностей, поход небольшой группы людей по таежной "алмазной тропе"...
